seeing the future as a dryad

2002-01-04

I went into a cafe type place. Buffy was behind the counter, which I sat at, fiddling with a soda or drink type machine that took pennies or some type of coins to run. It was broken and she didn't know what was wrong. I told her there were pennies stuck in it. She looked, and sure enough, that was what was wrong. She gave me a suspicious look. She went out and was talking to Giles, whio was sitting at a round table in the front part of the cafe. I hoped she didn't suspect that I had jammed the machine.

I stood up and started reciting prophecies dramatically, as if they were poetry or a monologue. I could tell the future and I also knew a lot about Buffy and her friends. First, I told her ways in which to get killed by a vampire, which included going to bebother Spike. This made her look at me suspiciously as well. Then I told her when various random strangers would die and future battles. I hoped she didn't fear or blame me.

The next day, Buffy and some friends were getting off a bus. I knew there was danger so I had gone there to meet them. I knew Buffy must fight it. As she went to go battle evil, I took dog form, and started herding Dawn, who had also gotten off the bus, away. She was confused and frustrated, but not afraid. We were in a public place, off a road, with grass and trees and gently sloping hills that led up to a large building. At first, Dawn tried to get past me and go back, but I herded her away again.

We came across Xander sitting with two girls, Cordelia and perhaps Anya, in the grass. I said to Xander, "You'd better go to Buffy and [scream]." He snerked at my implying that he was generally worthless and got up to go help her. The girls looked at each other and got up to go help Buffy as well.

Now Dawn was a kitten. I herded her over and she got into a corner formed by a building. I herded her farther away, using rows of trees to keep her going and on the right path.

I herded her to a kitten haven -- the grassy ground was covered with pill bugs and earthworms for the kittens to play with. I stepped daintily among them so not to squish them. I went to sit on a long low wooden structure, sort of like a table, in my human form.

The kitten expressed to me fears and frustration (in English), something about not being able to communicate with his or her owner (Buffy, presumably). I sympathised and encouraged the kitten to keep at it, and so on.

The next morning I took the kitten back to Buffy's house. Her friend, a random African American girl, took the kitten gratefully. I left, cold in the breeze because I had given the kitten my coat, without saying a word. Buffy looked after me thoughtfully.

Buffy asked her friend, the next day in school, questions about me. However, the girl didn't seem to know much of anything, nor did she express much curiousity.

I was a tree in the wood. Slowly, I transformed into my humanoid form -- an earth fairy, or dryad of some sort. There were two or three of us; one looked like Buffy's friend, but I don't think it was she. We had metallic-type streamers in our hair, and other shiny adornments, and we did a sort of ritualized dance.
