graphical MUCK
2002-02-05
We had our computers outside in back, around the side of the house. Mine wasn't working properly. Jess had gotten a new program and she installed in on one of the computers. It was a graphical MUCK program, and I wanted to try it out. Mom asked why I didn't use my own computer and I explained mine wouldn't run the MUCK. I logged into FurryMUCK with my sister, and it was like virtual reality. It seemed completely real. Jess and I could interact normally on the MUCK. We both had dogs; mine was a German Shepherd. They were like zombies or puppets. Jess and I figured out how to use the leash program on them, although in this virtual reality it consisted of actually going over and hooking the leash on their collars. I wondered how to force them like regular puppets, to get them to talk. When I figured it out, they would only bark, because that's what dogs do. I met up with HonahLee. We were both excited about the virtual reality MUCK. We looked normal (ala our players) to each other, but people recognized us as Honah and Scram. We wanted to see how the program had visually interpreted the Sewers (t sewer), so we walked until we got there. They were vast and grey stone. We were impressed. We decided to explore more of the MUCK. Honah put a leash on me and we headed down the hall. We played around with the leash, since it was just like real life -- she dragged me a ways, and then I tried pulling back. We came to some stairs we needed to go up. People looked up as we passed because they saw a scruffy rat being drug by on a leash. We liked freaking people out. We wanted to find a room where an old guy built amazing puppets. We had to ask directions, but we finally got there. The old man was somewhat creepy and had yiffy overtones, but Honah and I didn't feel intimidated by him since we could kick his tail if he tried anything. He had a room full of cats. He seemed interested in me as a pet, but we told him off. He demonstrated how his cats worked. He would say their number and a command and they would obey immediately. "58, come. 46, sit." Honah and I went to a place with a long hall with rooms off of it. It was a school. There were little kids everywhere. Honah left me there to go somewhere else. The teachers and parents in the hall were looking at me oddly because of my collar and piercings. I watched in a class for a while, then went about cleaning up some crayons that had been spilled in the hall. People watched me carefully. I was at home in teh bathroom, brushing my teeth. I yelled out to Jess, talking about Jenny. Suddenly Jess went silent. I peeked out and Jenny was in the kitchen with my mom. She didn't look at me, but I knew she knew I was there. I didn't say anything. I asked Jess quietly if Jenny had heard me, and Jess said maybe the last part when Jenny had come in from the garage, but she comforted me and said probably not the rest. Mom was going out with Jenny to Shari's or somewhere for drinks. I asked mom if she thought Jenny had heard me and she assured me, somewhat shortly, that Jenny had heard every word. I started freaking out because I had no idea what I had said, just knew it must've been bad. I begged Jess and mum to tell me what I had said, but they wouldn't. Jeanna, mum, dad, other family and I were walking down the road. We had to avoid getting smashed by cars. Big army trucks took a detour around us, doing things that would be illegal for most drivers to do. We got to where we were going. I commanded my cat-puppet like the ones from the MUCK, to meow and it complied. My dad told a dirty joke and I was embarrassed and appalled. My mom seemed exasperated but unsurprised. Vanessa, someone else, and I went ina car. We were going to a bus depot (such as for a large bus line like Greyhound). I pointed out that this was the one we'd transfer at if we were going to Seattle. Two girls in the front seat thought this was a stupid thing to say and started making fun of us, acting superior. We merely raised our eyebrows, thinking they were stupid, until they reached back and really started bugging us, and got physical. We said something scathing that they had no reaction for and they left in a huff. Led by an army officer, an older, genial guy, we went into a building set up something like a cafeteria. We went to the end of a long table, where a bunch of young men and women were very soon going to be shipped off to be in this army. It was a specialized type of army having something to do with comics and cartoons, but very elite and important. Vaness, myself and the other girl were just going on leave. I felt intimidated by the new recruits at hte table. They asked the older officer a question and he pointed to me. "Well, she's a drill sergeant," he said cheerfully. I felt overwhelmed as the people at the table began to bombard me with questions about what they were about to go into. At first I just meekly looked to the older officer to answer them for me, having no idea what they were talking about. Then I started answering their questions with more and more confidence. They asked what I was like as a drill sergeant, and I said most of the time I led them like a "Bruxa", knowing they could identify with this. Later I amended that to add that sometimes I threw in a little Malkavian.
