gift horses and heads; snake escape
2005-04-27
One of my clients hadn't paid me. Instead of giving me money, she gave me a horse, Rainy. I was confused, as I thought Rainy belonged to Jackie. But she didn't seem phased that Rainy had been given to me by this other woman. I heard Sarah, whom I knew leased Rainy. She and several other girls were in a stall. I asked them if Rainy belonged to Jackie, and they said no. I asked if she belonged to the woman who gave her to me, and they said they didn't know. Terence, Vanessa and I were staying with my extended family. My (deceased) grandfather on my dad's side was there. Someone gave me gifts, which they often did, which consisted of dead animals. They gave me a lion's head stuffed as a pillow, and a leather jacket. The lion's head had a face embroidered on the front that looked like a stuffed crochetted cat head Terence has. The boy who delivered them said we could have the jacket altered. I said I thought the jacket would fit Terence, and the boy said, "He has long arms." I knew Terence wouldn't like these things. I asked him what he wanted me to do with them, and he looked meaningfully at my family, wanting me to leave the head with them. He said the jacket didn't bother him. Jess was keeping snakes and lizards. She had them in beautiful terrariums. They were doing well, and active, Jess said, except that they had rough scales. One of the snakes, a striped colubrid-type, got loose. I called, "Loose snake!" Terence was sleeping in the other room and it started to go towards it. He exclaimed, "Loose snake?" I caught it, and said, "Not anymore." I put it back in its terrarium and closed the lid. I told Jess that I really liked her setups but that she should have heat for them. I said I thought the raised scales were caused by mites or ticks and told her what to buy to heal her snakes.
